Guest Speaker Evening
Pelican Dreaming: Stories from the Sea

Captain Garry McKechnie is an educator and sailor with a background in film, theatre and community work. His love of sailing and the sea has led him to an unusual career path combining his long experience in the arts and education with a passion for marine conservation. Since 1996 with a group of like minded colleagues he has been creating innovative projects at sea. In 2004 they launched a sailing vessel of their own design and construction, the remarkable  Pelican 1, as the inspirational platform on which their future projects would be based. Since that time Pelican Expeditions have created projects around Australia and the Pacific combining marine science, the arts, indigenous culture and of course sailing. Garry will present projects past, present and future.

SLOCA Supports Environmental Sustainability

SLOCA, representing students of the past, is keen to contribute to the school in a way that is of benefit for both current students and students of the future. SLOCA has chosen environmental sustainability within the school as a worthwhile way of doing this, and in 2008 donated $15,000 towards the cost of a current water tank project at Brighton.

50 Years Celebration – SLOCA celebrated its fiftieth birthday with an afternoon attended by past and current staff and alumni ranging across the generations. Attendees enjoyed entertainment by the SLOCA Singers and the Hot Flushes, and enjoyed reflections and displays from the past, followed by nostalgic afternoon tea and tours of the school.

We celebrate 50 years of SLOCA - St Leonard's Old Collegians' Association!

1957 Leonardian

A meeting of past students of St. Leonard’s P.G.C. was held at the school on 10th May, 1957. The Principal, Mrs. T.C. Woolhouse, said that the formation of an ex-collegians’ association was desirable so that girls who had passed through the school would not be lost to it nor, for their own sakes, lose their interest in the school. It was, therefore, decided to form an Old Collegians’ Association, the objects of which would include keeping old scholars in touch with one another and also in promoting the welfare of the school.

Fifty years on, the St Leonard's Old Collegians' Association (SLOCA) continues to provide opportunities for past students to maintain friendships with one another, through a variety of activities and events. These activities include reunions, regular guest speaker evenings, the SLOCA Singers, the Leonardian Players, classes such as Latin American dancing, and opportunities to play golf or tennis. SLOCA supports other parts of the school by operating a sausage stall at Community Day, assisting with FOSH (Friends of School Harefield) and participating in career guidance.

Reunions

At each reunion we have the option of a tour of the Brighton campus. These tours are proudly hosted by current year 12 students. Many thanks to our tour guides, who have enhanced the enjoyment of reunion participants. For a list of upcoming reunions click here.
