ELC – year 4, Cornish Campus

Children from the Early Learning Centre (three and four year olds) through to year 4 enjoy a friendly, caring environment. An integrated curriculum is followed which focuses on the child as a learner and the processes involved in the development of learning and thinking.

Our intention is to make learning relevant and meaningful to children, involving them in active inquiry using their own experiences to assist them in gaining a greater understanding of the world. Opportunities for extension are provided through critical and creative thinking activities, designed to challenge thought processes and extend their questioning capacity. Where appropriate, children with ability in particular areas are involved in an extension program.

A variety of specialist staff are involved in this area, including a librarian, music, art, LOTE and physical education teachers, school counsellor, special education teacher, integration aides and specialist language teachers in Japanese.

The ELC, Cornish Campus

The Early Learning Centre at Patterson River offers a safe, secure and happy environment, purpose-built for three and four year old children.

Features of this environment include a large playground area with a range of outdoor activities and protection from the sun. A light and open internal design offers endless scope for play and learning activities.

A special feature of the environment is the unique displays created by previous ELC children.  They include various creative artworks and a butterfly garden.  During their time in the ELC the children will also enjoy the opportunity to create their own displays that will be proudly displayed in the future.
