Entry to St Leonard’s College
St Leonard's College is a non-selective, open entry school. While the College is based on the Christian principles of the Uniting Church, it welcomes students of all faiths.
The College's policy is to offer places according to set criteria. Preference is given to children of families with direct links to St Leonard's (siblings of current students, children of Old Collegians and current staff members), some places are reserved for scholarship awardees, and other places are filled subject to maintaining gender balance, according to date of application wherever possible.
The College has intakes at ELC, prep (limited places), year 5 and year 7. It is possible to enter at other year levels through occasional vacancies. Prep students must be five years old by 30 April of the year they are to commence. For 3 year old early learning children must be three years old and it is expected that they will be toilet trained prior to commencement. Parents are advised to place their child's name on the College waiting list as early as possible, as lists for some year levels are very popular.
Our waiting lists for ELC3 in 2010 and ELC4 in 2010 and 2011 at the Brighton Campus have closed as we have many more children on the list than the College will be able to accommodate.
Beyond these levels, our next regular entry points are years 5 and 7. Entry to years other than these is possible only if a casual vacancy occurs.
There are limited places available at our Cornish Campus at Patterson River.
Although the College tries to accommodate all requests, due to waiting lists the College cannot guarantee that offers will be made to all applicants. Additionally, if a place is offered for one year level and it is deferred, it does not necessarily mean that the College will be able to offer another place at a future date.
Application For Enrolment
When an enrolment application is lodged a non-refundable administration fee of $100 (including GST) is payable. Receipt of the application will be acknowledged, and the child's name added to the enrolment waiting list for the year and level nominated. An application does not guarantee the offer of a place in the College for the child. For a fees summary for 2010 please click here.
Interview
Prior to entry (as far ahead as practicable) an interview is arranged which the parents or guardian and student attend, bringing with them current school reports (if the child is attending another school). At this meeting, or subsequent to it, students generally undertake a test to identify strengths and possible areas where extra assistance may be required and to assist in appropriate placement.
Offer
A formal letter of offer is sent to families, along with a copy of the College's Terms of Business, an Acceptance of Terms of Business form for completion and return and an invoice for the enrolment confirmation fee. For the first child in any family, the non-refundable enrolment confirmation fee is $1700. For the second, the fee is $975. For the third and subsequent children, the fee is $650.
The offer of a place in the College will not be confirmed until the fee and the form have been received.
