Year 9 Big Experience trips take off! PDF Print E-mail

Year 9 students from both campuses left Australia last week for their three week trips to either China, Fiji, Vietnam and Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Parents and friends can keep up to date on what each group is doing by logging into the blog set up for each trip group. The address is:

Asian Language grant PDF Print E-mail

St Leonard's College have recently been chosen to receive a grant of $25,000 for enhancing Asian Language (Indonesian and Japanese) program for both the Brighton and Cornish Campuses. There are only five schools chosen from the Independent sector in Victoria.

The College was successful in applying for Round 1 of the Australian Government's National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program
(NALSSP) Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools.

The Hon Julia Gillard MP, Minister for Education, announced the successful schools under Round 1 on 14th October 2009.

The grant covers: External and internal training of staff, CRT and purchasing of equipment from October 2009 to end of September 2010.

Congratulations to Naoko Nishikawa, our Japanese teacher, for successfully applying for this funding.

Victorian State Kayak Championships
On Saturday and Sunday 5 and 6 September a team of dedicated paddlers represented the College in the state championships on the Yarra River at Warrandyte. The team performed brilliantly bringing home a gold and two bronze medals. The results are:
Girls 17K1 - Downriver - Emma Eichorn – Gold
Boys 16K1 - Downriver - Nathan Sturgess – Bronze
Senior Boys K1 Slalom team - Nathan Sturgess, Jono Egan and Tom Martin - Bronze
 
It was a superb effort by all students. The other members of the team were: Ellen Burgin, Amelia Sturgess and Mel Hitchen-Haw. Congratulations to the team and thanks to Mr Ben Woolhouse for his time and effort in organising and training the team and being out there on the weekend.
