Ethical Framework
Our mission is clear: “Through inspiring and caring professionals and in a physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe coeducational environment, St Leonard’s College provides an exemplary, innovative education for its students, enriched by the traditions of its heritage and the diversity of all humanity to develop global citizens who know and embrace all others as equals.”
Our Social Responsibility Program integrates the core ideals to focus specifically on social action and sustainability. We are guided by the following principals and a commitment to:
- Global Citizenship
- Experiential Education
- Student Agency
- Character Development
- Providing a Safe and Inclusive Environment
- Sustainable Engagement and Collaborative Partnerships including Community Engagement
- Honour and Learn from our First Nation’s Peoples
With these aspirations in mind, we have developed an Ethical Framework of Social Responsibility to define and guide our work in this area. This framework provides structure and focus to our work ensuring we remain attentive to our True North – an Education for Life.
Sustainability
By working together, we can create meaningful change to protect our environment and make a lasting impact in our community – to ensure a better future for everyone.”
Social Responsibility
Various cocurricular student groups provide opportunities for student initiative and advocacy, including:
- Environmental Action Group (Years 5 to 12)
- Junior School Social Responsibility Group (Years 2 to 4)
- Middle School Social Action – Interact Group (Years 7 to 9)
- Senior School Social Action Group (Years 10 to 12)
- Social Responsibility Council (Years 9 to 12)
- Years 5/6 Social Responsibility Group (Years 5 and 6)
Cocurricular student-led groups such as the Environmental Action Group and Rotary Interact Club play an active role in addressing social justice, environmental advocacy, and community support, empowering students to take initiative on local and global challenges. Additional social action groups include Junior School Social Responsibility Group (Years 2 to 4), the Year 5/6 Social Responsibility Group and the Senior School Social Action Group (Years 10 to 12). All are overseen and led by the Social Responsibility Council.
In addition to the cocurriculum program, is The Amiel Society is a hallmark of St Leonard’s commitment to community service, uniting several student led initiatives under the one umbrella. The Amiel Society incorporates our unique Lennie’s Van, a mobile outreach initiative providing meals and food essentials to individuals experiencing food vulnerability in Bayside. Lennie’s Van operates with volunteer Senior School students and College staff, who work together to serve those in need. This hands-on service experience teaches empathy, leadership, and an understanding of community needs.
St Leonard’s fosters a student-centred approach that encourages authentic, lifeworthy experiences and prioritises each student’s wellbeing and growth. The College is deeply committed to an education that is socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and dedicated to fostering inclusive relationships that equip students to make a positive impact as compassionate, globally minded citizens.
For me, the purpose of social responsibility is to foster a sense of collective duty, where communities unite to address societal and environmental challenges. It empowers us to contribute to a better world, build connected communities, and inspire a culture of wellbeing.”
