Our Vision

Our vision is to provide all students with an education for life. We foster in young people the personal qualities for lifelong learning. We are committed to protecting the environment and addressing the challenges that future generations will face.
We believe the best way to achieve our vision is to embed sustainability, in its widest form, within our curriculum, co-curricular and experiential education programs.

Our Programs

Sustainability is woven into every stage of learning at St Leonard’s College, empowering students to take action, build knowledge, and embrace responsibility for a more sustainable future.
We embed sustainability throughout our formal and cocurricular program from our youngest learners in the Early Learning Centre, who can identify and use appropriate waste streams and practice recycling and composting, though the Junior School where education about sustainability is richly embedded within the PYP Programme of Inquiry. This formal curriculum is bolstered by opportunities to participate in Social Responsibility groups as part of the co-curricular program in the Junior School.
On their learning journey through the College, students engage with sustainability throughout the Australian Curriculum. This priority encourages students to understand and engage with the complex environmental, social, and economic challenges facing the world and to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed to contribute to a more sustainable future. Sustainability is also embedded within specific subject areas including Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Geography, Design and Technologies, Economics, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Outdoor and Environmental Education.
From Year 5 through to Year 12, students have an opportunity to participate in the Environmental Action Group (EAG). This group is part of our rich co-curricular program. The EAG meet weekly to identify opportunities to take action, collect data to inform decision making, plan and enact changes that make a difference to our environment throughout the college.  The EAG communicate regularly to the wider College community via newsletter articles and making use of the screens around the school.
The Environmental Action group supports the Sustainability Lead Group (made up of Directors of Facilities, Finance, Marketing and Communications, the Social Responsibility Coordinator, board members and parents). Two staff groups made up of teaching and general staff enhance our community commitment and dedication to caring for our environment both within the College community and beyond our gates.
St Leonard’s College is committed to doing our part in creating a world where our actions reduce our carbon emissions and help prevent the escalation of climate change.
