The St Leonard’s College Social Responsibility Council is a group of student leaders, spanning Years 9 to 12, committed to fostering responsible global citizenship and making a meaningful impact.
St Leonard’s College is dedicated to crafting an education that prepares students for life, emphasising the development of compassionate, responsible, and globally minded citizens. In alignment with our ‘True North’ strategic direction, our Social Responsibility Program integrates our core ideas to focus specifically on social action and sustainability.
Social Action
The Social Responsibility Council represents the many Social Action Groups within the College including the 5/6 Social Responsibility Team, 5/6 Social Responsibility Team, the Middle School Interact (Years 7 to 9), the Environmental Action Group and the Senior School Social Action Team.
Meetings for each group are conveniently scheduled during lunchtime, making it easy for students to participate without disrupting their regular school day.
Social Action operates throughout the year, offering a consistent and engaging experience for participants. Our inclusive approach ensures that everyone is welcome, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
Our Social Responsibility Council has proven they are adept at orchestrating a whole school response to a global crisis, showcasing their commitment to positive change. They have also raised a substantial amount of funds to address urgent needs and played a crucial role in assisting peers in their pitches to The Amiel Society Board.
At St Leonard’s College, we believe in an education for life, and the Social Responsibility Council embodies this philosophy. Participants develop resilience, negotiating skills, and a deep understanding of respectful discussions. As responsible global citizens, they work collaboratively, applying critical thinking to address global needs. Moreover, these students serve as compassionate leaders, supporting their peers in various social justice pursuits and contributing to a community of effective, empathetic change-makers.
Through the Social Responsibility Council, students not only learn about leadership but actively practise it, creating a positive impact on both our local and global communities.
