“ St Leonard’s College honours the life and legacy of Joan Daniels, a devoted supporter of the school whose contributions have left a lasting impact on our community.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Daniels, a remarkable woman and a cherished member of the St Leonard’s College community. Joan passed away on Saturday, 5 October 2024. Her legacy at the College is one of outstanding leadership, generosity, and dedication, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Joan served as Chair of the College Council from 1980 to 1983, and she was the first woman to hold this position. She was also an inaugural member of the Harefield Club and was highly regarded for her contributions to the College’s direction and success.
Joan’s connection to St Leonard’s ran deep. As a past parent of Janet (OC1977), she saw her daughter flourish within the St Leonard’s community. Although her other children, Greg and Peter, did not attend the College, Greg later returned as a teacher and continues to assist with examination invigilation. Her grandchildren, Isabelle (OC2014) and Riley (OC2013), are also part of the St Leonard’s legacy, marking three generations of Joan’s family closely connected with the College.
Beyond her formal roles, Joan was deeply involved in many aspects of school life. She was President of the Mothers Association, bringing her leadership, kindness, and community spirit to this important group. She also had a strong dedication to charitable work and, following the passing of her beloved husband Frank, ran the family printing business while caring for her children.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Joan’s family – her children Janet, Greg, and Peter, and her grandchildren Isabelle and Riley. Joan’s contributions will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
The funeral service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on Monday, 14 October 2024, at 11.00 am at St Andrews by the Sea Uniting Church, located at the corner of Balcombe Road and Central Avenue in Black Rock.
