Year 8 student wins Opera House Fanfare Competition

Last year 8 student Elise Bergman took part in the 2015 Fanfare Competition run by Artology, an organisation which seeks to develop the creative potential of young people through experiential learning in the arts. The Fanfare Competition challenges young composers aged 12-21 to write a short fanfare to replace the bells at the Sydney Opera House. Elise’s composition Sails of Sydney Harbour saw her become the youngest of eight winning composers selected to work with mentor composer Nicholas Vines to fully develop her ideas and have her work recorded by the Australian Youth Orchestra. Her 30-second fanfare will be used at the Sydney Opera House to replace the theatre bells indicating to patrons that they should move to their seats for the performance.

All winners travelled to Sydney for the official launch party during the recent school holidays and the fanfares will be performed at the Opera House from April 2016 – March 2017. Elise’s composition will be featured from 10 June  – 1 July. This is truly a wonderful achievement for Elise and recognises her as one of Australia’s best budding young composers. You can listen to Elise’s fanfare below.
