The ACS Swimming Carnival was held on Thursday 17 March at Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre, and St Leonard’s swimmers showed their dominance, coming away with the overall win for the second year in a row. Captains Hamish Harrison, Costas Papadopoulos, Claire Murphy and Tim Davis lead our team to a very close overall victory, as well as a first place in the boys overall aggregate and second place in the girls competiton.
It was a nailbiting event, with scores very close thorughout the day. With 12 events left our swimmers were trailing behind Westbourne by 16 points. Over the next several races the scoreboard slowly shifted in our favour. It all came down to the final three events and we finished the day on a high with our year 12 boys breaking the ACS record in the 4 x 50 freestyle relay and confirming our championship win!
Some special mentions need to be made:
- Our year 7 boys who stepped up on the day and swam really well
- Issy Ross, Alina Neesham and Linus Dutkowski who steped in to fill spots at the last minute
- Several students who gave their best despite competing with injuries
This win was not made only by a couple key swimmers winning their races but everyone coming together and performing as a team. Well done!
