Reconciliation Action Plan

St Leonard’s College is located on Bunurong land and acknowledges the people of the Boonwurrung language group. Our vision is to build an understanding and respect of the diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the deep connections each has to the land and sea.

We hope to learn and understand the impacts of historical wrongdoings and to acknowledge the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in maintaining identity, knowledge and connection to culture.

As we develop meaningful relationships with our local Bunurong community and those further afield we aim to work together towards a shared future. At all levels within the College and its community we commit to embedding practices which will contribute to reconciliation through mutual respect, knowledge and action.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan outlines a clear roadmap for advancing reconciliation and encompasses the following fundamental aspects:

1. Cultivating respectful relationships with First Nations Peoples in our educational settings and throughout the broader College community.
2. Demonstrating sincere acknowledgement and profound respect for the ancient culture by authentically integrating it into our classrooms and community.
3. Identifying and seizing opportunities for collective involvement in the ongoing development of reconciliation within the College and the wider community.

We actively encourage feedback on our Reconciliation Plan, as it is a living document that will be reviewed and updated annually to reflect the progress made within the College. Please note the document featured below is the initial draft of the RAP that was submitted to Narragunnawali Reconciliation in Education in the fourth term of 2022 and received approval on 1 December 2022. The submitted draft provides more detailed descriptions of specific actions and the individuals responsible for their completion.
