Music – Audition Standards

In 2021 the following instruments may take priority: oboe, bassoon, french horn, clarinet, trumpet, tuba and viola.  For these instruments only, students commencing years 5 and 7 to 11 in 2021 require minimum grade 2 AMEB or equivalent at the time of application.

For all other instruments including voice, achievement at the time of application of the following AMEB minimum grades or equivalent standards (recognising that musical backgrounds can be varied) will be used as a guide when shortlisting for audition:

Students commencing year 5 in 2021 require minimum grade 3 AMEB or equivalent
Students commencing year 7 in 2021 require minimum grade 4 AMEB or equivalent
Students commencing year 8 in 2021 require minimum grade 5 AMEB or equivalent
Students commencing year 9 or 10 in 2021 require minimum grade 6 AMEB or equivalent
Students commencing year 11 in 2021 require minimum grade 7 AMEB or equivalent

Students are able to audition for one or more instruments, including voice.

All vocal and instrumental students are required to perform a short etude or technical work of their choice as appropriate to the required standards (listed above). This may include a variety of scales from the AMEB or equivalent syllabus.

In addition, students are required to perform two works of their own choice (one on each instrument if auditioning for more than one instrument). These works should be chosen to demonstrate their personal best. At least one work should be accompanied, if appropriate. Students may use the College accompanist or supply their own.

Auditioning students will be given sight reading and aural tests.

Drama – Audition Standards

Drama Scholarship applications are invited from those who perform or show potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of their age.

Applicants are required to submit an application and also sit the academic written examination (verbal and numerical reasoning; reading comprehension, mathematics and written expression) administered by Edutest.

Students shortlisted for audition will be required to present a solo piece, for example poetry, a monologue from a play or film, or the student’s own creation. The piece should be of no more than two minutes duration. In addition, students will need to choose and prepare one monologue from a selection provided by the College. For one of the pieces, the student will be asked to take direction. A short interview will complete the process. Auditions will be approximately 15 minutes in duration.

Drama audition requirements will be provided directly to shortlisted applicants prior to audition.
