ACS Athletics Champions – Again!
By Tony Kiers, Head of Sport

On 28 May 2019, our St Leonard’s College athletics team won the ACS Athletics Championship at Lakeside Stadium for the second consecutive year.

The team took an early lead and were never headed for the rest of the day, extending the lead to convincingly win all the trophies on offer including the Boys, Girls and Overall categories.

It was a great day and the College is exceptionally proud of our students’ performances and the spirit they displayed throughout the event. The look of joy on their faces as we took a clean sweep of trophies was a tremendous sight and we were very pleased they were rewarded for their efforts.

There were some outstanding individual performances throughout the day, however our success was based on our students’ willingness to give their best, put the team first and when required, fill in for someone who was unable to compete on the day. We also had a terrific coaching team this year, led by Olympians Craig Mottram and Sean Wroe who did an excellent job preparing our students for the competition and supporting them on the day.

Congratulations to all members of the team and a big thank you to our team captains, Laura, Tom, Toby and Jordynne, who led from the front all day and were a great support to myself and the team.

Congratulations also to Jess (Year 9 200m), Jordynne (Year 11 Triple Jump) and our Year 10 Girls 4 x 100m relay team for setting new ACS records in their respective events.

We look forward to next year when we have the chance to go for three in a row!
