Middle School Play – Our Town

First performed in 1931, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town became an instant hit on Broadway. It is remarkable that a play set in North Hampshire during 1901 – 1913 remains as one of the most popular plays of the 21st Century. Our Town has not just lasted, it has become an American classic. The world has also taken to Wilder’s play so much so that every night of the year, somewhere in the world, the play is being performed.

The astounding popularity of the piece comes from Our Town’s timeless qualities and concerns. Our Town could in fact be our town of Brighton, Melbourne, as the play focuses on universal themes of love, death and how to live a fulfilling life.
